Loop.pH, VelO2 and public art installations to visualise air quality (Taipei, Taiwan)
VelO2 was a public engagement initiative developed by Loop.pH in Taipei that advocated clean, healthy cities by drawing attention to the importance of active lifestyles and air quality in building sustainable smart cities.
Deliver Change were luckily enough to be part of this amazing public installation by providing an AirSensa. The live data was then translated into seven different breathing rhythms and colours of light, passing from green to a dark red for dangerous levels of pollutants and creating a kind of warning system based on the international standard Air Quality Index.
Visitors to the installation are provided with bikes to try out the tracks as we hoped that encouraging citizens to take up cycling in a fun and social environment could help Taiwan tackle its air pollution issues.
This installation was an amazing example about using a public art installation to Make Air Pollution Visible, as well encouraging sustainable transport.
Loop.pH are hoping VelO2 will be repeated in other locations, so please visit their website if you are interested in hosting VelO2 in your City.
